# Update phone number using API

hey! going thru the API documentation and trying to figure out if it’s possible to update person’s phone number using API.  
as I couldn’t find how to do that I’ve started looking into using custom fields.  
and I found out that it’s possible to create custom fields for a person only using the UI, is that correct?

Hi volodymyr.d,

We currently only support updating the values listed in [Update personal information](https://developer.deel.com/reference/updatepeoplepersonalinformationbyid) endpoint and phone is not available.

in terms of custom fields you can try using [Update custom field value](https://developer.deel.com/reference/upsertcustomfieldvaluefromworker) endpoint.

if I understand correctly “Update custom field value” can only update existing field, it does not create one, is that correct?

The title is currently a bit misleading and we’ll look into that but if you look at the description you’ll see:

> Add or update custom field values for a specific worker, ensuring their profile is up-to-date with the latest information.

Hello @volodymyr.d,

You can update a custom fields using API, but the creation of this field must be done on the UI. Please go to **Organization Settings → Custom Fields**
